Research overview

The Center’s research goal was to provide the field with a richer understanding of literacy challenges and opportunities for improving literacy outcomes among struggling middle-school readers. We pursued this research (2011-2016) through a range of research methodologies, goals, and perspectives. Combining what might be considered foundational research about literacy and particularly about literacy, motivation, and digital environments, with a substantial design-based research and development effort around a particular tool, the Center’s experiences and findings demonstrate both the potential of novel approaches and the need for continued investigation.
